Congressman McMahon Co-Sponsors Card-Check Legislation

Congressman Mike McMahon (NY-13) has happily taken a whopping $442,635 from labor unions into his campaign's coffers. But as a co-sponsor of controversial card-check legislation, he also wants to take away a worker's right to a secret ballot.

Congressional candidate Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn), who is opposing McMahon in November, said, "Card-check legislation is wrong and violates a fundamental American right of a secret ballot. As a former FBI Special Agent, I know first-hand that a card-check process fosters an atmosphere of intimidation and coercion, and it should be prohibited from the workplace.

"I support the rights of workers, especially their rights to lower taxes and an end to debt and overspending," Grimm continued. "But unlike my opponent, I'm not paid off by powerful unions or special interests. I answer only to the people. The people demand lower taxes, lower spending, and job creation. Congressman McMahon, who has received almost half a million dollars from labor unions, has presided over out-of-control deficits, failed stimulus packages, and record job losses.

"When I am in Congress, I will cut taxes, invest in small business, and create jobs. I will also fight to protect our workers from legislation, such as card-check, that tries to strip away their basic rights as Americans."
