Turner Calls on U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to Remedy MOVE Act Violation

Bob Turner, the Republican candidate for Congress in New York's 9th CD who is challenging incumbent Anthony Weiner, has sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder asking him to investigate and remedy violations of the MOVE Act by the New York Board of Elections.

According to the 2009 MOVE Act, states are required to send out their military and overseas ballots 45 days prior to election day. New York was granted a waiver to this deadline by the Department of Justice and given until Oct. 1 to send out all its ballots. According to the New York Board of Elections, all the ballots still have not been mailed.

"It is shameful that New York City is unable to comply with the MOVE Act, which gives our soldiers in harms way a voice in this critical election," Turner said. "We have 50,000 soldiers from the New York City area who will not be able to participate in the mid-term elections. The lack of representation from our military will have a significant impact on numerous close races in New York, and my campaign against Anthony Weiner is among them."

In his letter to Holder, Turner asks the attorney general to contact him directly "to discuss what is being done to remedy the situation and to have all voters' rights protected and their votes counted."

Turner has lived his entire life in the neighborhoods of the 9th District. He was raised in Woodhaven as the eldest of three sons, and raised his own family in Richmond Hill. He now resides in Rockaway Point.
