Health Care Bill Hurts Small Businesses

"Senator Murray sold the health care bill to small businesses in Washington State as a kind of magic elixir which would help them provide better and more affordable coverage for their employees'

The day before the Democrat's health care bill was signed into law, Sen. Patty Murray spoke on the Senate floor in support of the bill saying, "if you are a small business owners--starting today the health insurance market will begin working better for you."[i] Unfortunately, as small business owners across Washington State discover how much their health insurance costs are rising, they are also realizing this health care bill did not fulfill its promise. U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi made the following statement regarding the new health care laws penalties for small businesses:

"Senator Murray sold the health care bill to small businesses in Washington State as a kind of magic elixir which would help them provide better and more affordable coverage for their employees. But Washington job creators are realizing they can no longer afford to provide quality health care coverage to their employees, in large part because of Senator Murray's sixtieth and deciding vote on health care."

Small businesses across the state are receiving notices regarding the cost of their health care coverage for next yea. Many businesses which have always provided health care coverage for their employees are now forced to decide to discontinue coverage, dramatically decrease coverage for their employees, or ask their employees to pay more for their health care.
