Brad Zaun, Republican candidate for Iowa's 3rd Congressional District, made the following statement this morning, upon hearing of the announcement by Principal Financial Group that it will exit the health care insurance business:
"Today, Principal Financial Group announced it will exit the health insurance business, and will immediately terminate 150 employees, and will likely shed up to 1,500 employees. These jobs losses are a direct result of the actions of President Obama and Congressman Boswell, and they owe everyone some pretty quick answers.
Throughout the debate over Obamacare, Iowans across this district pleaded with Congressman Boswell not to support the President and Speaker Pelosi. They were warned of the terrible impact the monstrosity called 'reform' could have on central Iowa's economy, but they turned a deaf ear.
Now, as the old adage goes, the chickens have come home to roost. This is the front end of the impact of this massive federal takeover, with central Iowans bearing the brunt.
Congressman Boswell is just returning from Congress. He voted to adjourn without passing a single budget bill. He took a pass on stopping the largest tax hike in history. Now, with this news, he will be met with up to 1,500 Iowans who have lost their jobs because of his actions.
I hope he has answers for them. Sadly, I doubt that he will."
