Attorney General Biden believes government's core function is protecting the public - that means reducing crime and making our communities safer.
Attorney General Biden leads a team of hard-working men and women at the Department of Justice who wake up every day focused on protecting Delawareans and putting criminals behind bars. Biden and his prosecutors stand up for victims so they receive the justice they deserve and hold criminals accountable for their crimes.
Last year alone, the state resolved 50 murder cases, double the number of murder cases resolved five years ago. While the Department will never be satisfied with anything less than a 100 % success rate, the State is prosecuting -- and winning -- more complicated and challenging murder cases than ever before.
Attorney General Biden also implemented a proven strategy called Community Prosecution that assigns prosecutors to work with local police in high-crime neighborhoods. Prosecutors work side by side with police who know the community best to develop new crime fighting strategies, improve neighborhood safety and reduce crime overall. This effort began with the Southbridge neighborhood in 2007 and has expanded throughout New Castle County with 37 prosecutors participating.
Because one bad apple can spoil a neighborhood, Attorney General Biden dusted off the state's seldom-used Nuisance Abatement law, enhanced it and now utilizes it to shut down drug houses and other crime-filled properties throughout the state. If the property owner refuses action after being contacted by Biden's office, they could face the loss of their property. So far more than 100 problem properties have been rehabilitated.
