Issue Position: National Security and the War on Terror

Issue Position

It is evident by the ongoing attempted attacks on our country that we are still a nation at war. Brett strongly opposed the Obama Administration's position that foreign terrorists caught attempting to kill Americans on U.S. soil are entitled to the same rights as U.S. citizens. Specifically, he opposes granting terrorists, such as the so-called "underwear bomber" who was caught trying to bomb an airplane landing in Detroit on Christmas Day 2009, having their Miranda Rights read them.

Brett also opposed the Obama Administration's plan to close Guantanamo Bay and believes it should be left open to house dangerous terrorists captured in the War on Terror. Brett believes terrorists should be given military trials at Guantanamo Bay, not trials in U.S. civilian courts.
