Bunning: "The American People are Tired of Empty Promises'

Statement

U.S. Senator Jim Bunning today supported S.J. Res. 39, a resolution of disapproval introduced by Senator Mike Enzi dealing with the rule recently put out by the Department of Health and Human Services on the grandfathering of health plans under the new Obama health reform law. The resolution of disapproval was defeated on a party-line vote of 40-59.

"One thing we heard repeatedly from President Obama and Democrats during the health care debate was that if people liked the health care plans they had they would be able to keep them. Apparently, the President was just kidding.

"Under a new rule from CMS, if you like your health plan, you probably won't be able to keep it. The rule is so burdensome and complex that it will be incredibly difficult for most businesses to keep the plans they currently offer because even the smallest change could force them to lose their grandathered status. We were also promised lower costs, and now the American people are learning that Obamacare is causing costs to accelerate.?And if employers make any changes to their plans to manage rising costs, their workers' right to keep what they have won't be protected.

"The American people are tired of empty promises from Democrats in Washington. Mr. President, when you give your word, at least act like you're making an effort to keep it!"
