Issue Position: Creating a 21st Century Economy

Issue Position

After eight years of failed Bush-era economic policies that sent hundreds of thousands of American jobs overseas, Iowa is faring better than most states. That's because here in Iowa, we understand the true impact that clean energy investments can have on our economy.

Iowa currently ranks 1st in the nation in ethanol production and 2nd in the nation in wind energy capacity because we know that clean energy infrastructure creates jobs that can't be shipped overseas.

The first bill I introduced in Congress was the New Era Act, which provided critical funding for community colleges to train students in the development of agriculture-based energy. Based on the success of that program, I introduced another bill this year, the New Era Expansion Act, to help train students in wind energy manufacturing.

Additionally, I've introduced legislation that will end tax breaks for big oil companies and instead devote those resources to expanding tax credits for biodiesel, ethanol, and wind, which are critical to keeping the clean energy industry in Iowa strong and growing.
