Issue Position: Seniors

Issue Position

As the senior population grows in America each day, we have to make sure that Ohio's seniors are properly cared for and their finances are protected. I am committed to working on behalf of senior citizens each day in Congress. I supported the Recovery Act which created jobs for seniors by investing $120 million for the Senior Service Employment Program and provided funds to lower the cost of food, energy, and housing for America's seniors by investing in home weatherization projects and senior nutrition programs.

As a member of the Financial Services Committee, I have also worked to reform Wall Street and protect Ohio's seniors from predatory lending and other corrupt practices so that their savings and retirement plans are never compromised again.

Lastly, I voted for comprehensive health care reform to strengthen Medicare, a program which has provided health care for Ohio's seniors for the last 45 years, close the Medicare Part D donut hole, and eliminate co-pays for preventative services. I also voted to protect seniors' access to their doctors by ensuring that physicians are reimbursed fairly for treating Medicare patients.

Seniors have helped build our communities, raise our families, and protect our country. I am honored to work for the needs of central Ohio's seniors in Congress.
