Issue Position: Transportation - Paving the Way to the Future

Issue Position

Our district stands at the crossroads of America. From the family crossing America on vacation, the truck driver hauling cargo from an intermodal facility or the barge operator transporting grain to Lake Michigan, if you travel through the Midwest, odds are you travel through our district.

The 11th District of Illinois has six Class I railroads several Class II railroads, seven interstates, two future high-speed rail stations, multiple major waterways, and several intermodal facilities. These modes of transportation don't just connect our communities, they bring economic development to our neighborhoods and jobs to our families.

Since coming to Congress, I have fought to deliver investment to improve our existing infrastructure and expand our current capacity. That is why I will continue to work towards developing the Illiana Expressway and third regional airport. That is also why I will continue fighting to deliver funding for high-speed rail in Illinois.

We must work together to fight for a better tomorrow. Our diverse infrastructre provides an opportunity for the 11th District to be the driver of economic development in not only the region, but our country as well. I will continue to deliver resources to the 11th District to ensure we make this the reality.

How Congresswoman Halvorson is fighting to deliver infrastructure investment to Illinois

Will County Intermodal Facility - Debbie brought federal, state and local stakeholders together to finalize a deal to break ground on a new intermodal facility in Will County that will create over 15,000 jobs.

Bringing High-Speed Rail to Illinois - Debbie fought to deliver over $1.2 billion in high speed rail funding to Illinois which will bring stops in Joliet and Normal along a high-speed Chicago to St. Louis line. The investments are in addition to bringing $22 million in federal funding to Normal for a new multimodal facility.

Holding CN Accountable - Working with our local communities to fund noise mitigation efforts and hold CN accountable, Debbie has fought to protect neighborhood interests and keep public concerns at the forefront of ongoing CN discussions.

Illiana Expressway - Leading the effort to bring more economic development and less traffic congestion to the 11th District, Debbie has helped to bring parties from Illinois and Indiana together to further discussion on the proposed Illiana Expressway which would connect I-55 to I-65.
