I have had the great privilege of serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, the San Jose Evergreen Community College District Board, and as a member of Congress. As a result, I've been part of both the local and national conversation on education. My commitment has remained the same -- to ensure that our schools have every resource at their disposal to give every student a chance to succeed and grow.

Educating our nation's youth is the single best investment we can make in the future. With that in mind, I've worked to improve our nation's educational system and access to higher learning. Over the last year, I joined my fellow Democrats in Congress in voting for legislation to increase federal loan limits for college students, increase Pell Grants, cut the interest rates on subsidized student loans in half, and provide loan forgiveness for public servants, including first responders, law enforcement officers, firefighters, nurses, public defenders, prosecutors, early childhood educators, librarians and others. Looking forward, I am committed to reforming the so-called "No Child Left Behind" program and seeing that it is fully funded.

By investing in education, we can prepare young Americans to compete in the interconnected global marketplace of the future. Our economy and national security depend on our ability to continue expanding educational opportunities for all Americans.
