Issue Position

As the son of a sharecropper, Bobby knows first hand that farms are vital to Alabama's economy. But he also understands that family farming is what binds together so many South and Central Alabama communities. Preserving our farm culture and ensuring our growers and producers can continue to make a living are top priorities for Congressman Bright. Growing up, Bobby was taught that farming is not only the source of our food, but also the key to our heritage as both Alabamians and as Americans. That is why he never forgets the agricultural community--whether he is voting in Washington or working in Alabama.

As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Congressman Bright is a strong voice for our local farmers. In fact, when the House Agriculture Committee arranged only eight field hearings around the country, Bobby successfully brought one to Troy. Congressman Bright knows the importance of giving Alabama farmers the opportunity to express their opinions on the current Farm Bill to key committee members, including the Chairman of the Committee, and he intends to continue fighting for the needs of farmers in South and Central Alabama.

Immediately after being elected to Congress in 2008, Bobby formed an Agriculture Advisory Committee in order to hear directly from Second District farmers. These trusted advisers from across the district and industry have been valuable sounding boards and thoughtful counselors for helping weigh policy decisions in Washington. Congressman Bright knows that the most important role he plays as representative for the Second District is diligently responding to the needs of his constituents, just as he did when he pushed for USDA resources to aid Alabama farmers who had experienced unprecedented rainfall and severe crop loss in 2009.

Furthermore, Bobby knows that America must have the ability to feed itself. Instead of outsourcing jobs to other countries, we need to support the farmers in our own backyard. As long as he is in Congress, Congressman Bright will work tirelessly looking after our farmers so that they can continue to grow for us.
