Hayes Calls on Jackson to Give a Straight Answer

Statement

Date: Sept. 17, 2010
Location: Chicago, IL

Republican nominee for Illinois 2ndCongressional District Isaac Hayes released the following statement following Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.'s (D-IL) meeting with several potential Chicago Mayoral candidates, including White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

"Congressman Jackson owes the people of Illinois Second District a straight answer. Will he or won't he run for Mayor of Chicago? It appears he is trying to run for two offices at the same time. This latest shenanigan is a continuation of ethical violations that resulted in him being named one of the fifteen most corrupt members in Congress by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

"It has been clear since 2006 that Mr. Jackson desired to be Mayor of Chicago. Then in 2008 he sought to purchase a United States Senate seat. Today, he again wants to be Mayor of Chicago. This Ring Around the Rosie with the members of the our district is a clear indication that he considers representing their interests in the U.S. House beneath him.

"I call on Mr. Jackson to tell us whether he is in or whether he is out because the members of our district deserve better. They deserve someone with the character and values to lead the Second District with honesty and integrity."
