Rep. Kirkpatrick to Address Student Leaders, Discuss Her Efforts to Make College More Affordable for Greater Arizona's Youth

Press Release

Date: Sept. 25, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Representative Ann Kirkpatrick will be in Flagstaff on Sunday to address The Conference of Arizona Student Leaders, a gathering of student government members from universities and community colleges across the state. At 12:00pm on the campus of Northern Arizona University, Rep. Kirkpatrick will meet with student leaders from over twenty institutions of higher learning to discuss her efforts to give more of Greater Arizona's young adults the opportunity to go to college and to encourage them to remain active in public life.

The event will give student government leadership the opportunity to discuss statewide issues and learn from one another to help their own institutions run more effectively.

"In these tough economic times, young people have to overcome tremendous obstacles to be able to go to college and get the education they need to find well-paying jobs," said Rep. Kirkpatrick. "Not only are the students at this conference showing leadership at their own colleges and universities--they're working together to find ways to improve educational opportunities for students across our state. These young men and women will lead Arizona in the years to come, and I'm working hard in Washington to give them the support they need to thrive both while they're in college and after graduation."

Rep. Kirkpatrick understands the importance of higher education to prepare a new generation of young people to lead in the global economy. She has strongly supported the work of Northern Arizona University and community colleges across District One in her first term in Congress. Earlier this year, she helped push measures through Congress to give students easier access to federal student loans without increasing the deficit.
