Issue One - Jobs

Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2010

In today's Decatur Daily Editorial titled "Gambling Issue Not Alabama's Top Concern", that paper's editorial board echoes what poll after poll is indicating about what Alabamians say are the most important issues to them.

Those issues are creating jobs and economic development.

You and I have been aware of that fact for some time now. That's why the message of this campaign has been focused on putting Alabamians back to work. While our opponent is desperately trying to hide behind partisan labels in an effort to distract voters from her lack of economic development experience, we have been reminding Alabamians that we led the effort that has resulted in over 150,000 jobs and over 7 billion dollars being invested in this state. When Governor Riley went to Germany to close the deal with one of the world's largest steel companies, he asked me to go with him. He didn't ask my opponent to make the trip.

It's a pretty cut and dry argument. Jobs are the top issue. We led the effort that created over 150,000 while our opponent has not created any.

I've always had great faith in the common sense of our people and it's obvious that our message is hitting home with the voters of this state. We are receiving endorsements from both Democratic and Republican groups. Voters from both parties are reaching out and joining our effort to get Alabama's economy back on track.

In the final weeks of this campaign, while we continue to speak about job creation and building partnerships to move Alabama forward, you can rest assured that our opponent will ramp up her efforts to promote division and distract voters from her lack of experience.

Let's continue to work together as we move ever closer to victory!
