Issue Position

Have you ever heard the question "what part of illegal do you not understand"? Well I understand. If you elect me as your governor Utah will cease being a "sanctuary state" for illegals. How can we build upon a foundation of a republic (government by the law) with a large segment of the population operating outside of the law. The answer to illegal immigration is, of course, legal immigration. We invite people who are committed and able to help build our society to come live through the front door and participate in equality with us. The entire exchange is elevated when the blessings and rights of citizenship are earned and received by invitation rather than by pilfering or by deception. The problems of illegal immigration are greatly exasperated by the perpetuation of the welfare state. This is ruinous to our economy as well as the recipients. What heritage is passed on to the rising generation when their immigration experience is based upon fraud and deception? In much of life we get what we are willing to tolerate.
