Issue Position: Support Our Seniors

Issue Position

Scott believes all elderly Americans are entitled to affordable health care, prescription drugs and a solvent and reliable Social Security system. He opposes any initiative to privatize Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. In 2009, Social Security paid $907 million to elderly Alaskans, with the average monthly benefit about $1,100, a significant portion of the average senior's income. Cutting Medicare in Alaska, which provides about $413 million to Alaskans for health care, could devastate the 65,000 Alaskans who receive benefits from it.
