House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-SC) today released the following statement after House Minority Leader John Boehner restated the Republican plan to enact the same failed policies of the past.
"Once again, House Republicans are making it clear that they intend to turn back the clock to the disastrous economic programs that caused the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the loss of 8 million jobs and the near-doubling of the national debt. Americans have felt the effects of budget-busting Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest few, but Republican Leader John Boehner wants to extend those tax cuts, adding $700 billion to the deficit over the next decade. Our country simply cannot afford to return to these fiscally irresponsible policies.
"As President Obama outlined in a speech today in Cleveland, Democrats are focused on moving the country forward not back. House Democrats are working to restore the middle class and boost the American manufacturing sector through our Make it in America initiative. These Make it in America bills will create quality, high-paying jobs of the future here at home, and boost exports and innovation that will increase our global competitiveness and drive the economic recovery."
