Rep. Rothman's Rosh Hashana Greeting

Statement

Representative Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on the occasion of Rosh Hashana, the beginning of the Jewish New Year:

Tonight, I will join with my family, friends, and Jewish communities around the world as we celebrate the Jewish New Year, 5771, and extend good wishes to all -- L'shana Tova Tikatevu, may you be inscribed (in the Book of Life) for a good year.

Now is a time to reflect on how far we've come and what lies ahead for the next year. This High Holiday season is a period when there are many important issues on the minds of the Jewish people -- from the economy at home to the welfare of the Jewish State of Israel. I hope and pray for successful Israeli-Palestinian talks, that Iran halts its reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons, and that 5771 will be a year of peace and security.

We also must remember that security is not only resolved on the battlefield or at the negotiating table. In these uncertain economic times, families of all religions face tough choices when it comes to their pocket books. Our tradition teaches us that we ought to leave the world better than we found it and we must rise to the occasion to ensure we are doing all that we can to move our country forward.

I wish all of my constituents, all New Jerseyans, and those throughout our country and around the world a good and sweet year. Shana Tova!
