Fleming Comments on Stem Cell Court Ruling

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. commented today on a recent poll showing the American public's overwhelming support for U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth's injunction to stop President Obama's policy of using of taxpayer dollars to fund embryonic stem cell research.

"In the days since U.S. District Judge Lamberth granted an injunction against the Obama administration's use of taxpayer dollars to destroy human embryos, liberals in Congress have promised quick action on legislation that would expand federal funding for this illegal research," said Fleming. "Recent polls clearly show that the American public is not interested in seeing taxpayer money wasted on embryonic stem cell research."

Last week, Rasmussen asked 1000 likely voters whether the federal government should fund embryonic stem cell research, 57% said that funding for embryonic stem cell research should be left to the private sector, while only 33% support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

"Congress decided 14 years ago not to fund research in which a human embryo was destroyed," continued Fleming. "President Obama's decision to open the floodgates and spend over $140 million on illegal research which has yet to treat a single person shows how misplaced this administration's priorities are."

John Fleming is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana. He is a member of the House Armed Services and Natural Resources Committees.
