Kaufman Marks the End of U.S. Combat Mission in Iraq

Location: Wilmington, DE

Senator Ted Kaufman (D-DE) issued the following response to President Obama's Oval Office address on Iraq:

"Today, America marks a critical milestone in our strategic partnership with Iraq, and I strongly support President Obama's goal of an Iraq that is sovereign, stable, and self-reliant. Even before President Obama took office, he committed to responsibly ending the combat mission in Iraq, and that is precisely what our troops have accomplished under his leadership.

"While Iraq has made positive economic, security, and political progress, the Iraqi people and government still face formidable challenges. As we transition from a U.S. military to civilian-led mission in Iraq, we remain committed to assisting the people of Iraq in their effort to build on past achievements.

"I applaud the courageous men and women of the U.S. Military for their remarkable service, courage, and sacrifice in Iraq, which will never be forgotten."
