As a former public school teacher, education improvements and reform is something I have been tirelessly committed to during my time at the Capitol. With over 60 percent of our state budget dedicated to public education funding (K-12 schools and University System of Georgia) we must utilize every dollar effectively to protect and enhance our school systems for our teachers, parents, and most importantly our students.
* Introduced HB 1133, the tuition tax credit bill. This legislation provides parents with the opportunity to put their tax dollars towards private education and was signed into law by Governor Perdue in 2008.
* Carried SB 10 in the House, which provided for much-needed reform in the area of special needs vouchers. Thanks to this legislation, many of Georgia's children are now able to attend schools that are able to accommodate their unique educational needs.
