Straten to Pascrell: Why Are You Mad at Gibbs?

Press Release

Date: July 14, 2010
Location: Paterson, NJ

Paterson businessman Roland Straten, Republican Congressional candidate in New Jersey's 8th District, took issue today with career politician Bill Pascrell amid reports that Pascrell and Nancy Pelosi berated a White House staffer over spokesman Robert Gibbs assertion that" there is no doubt there are enough seats in play… that could cause Republicans to gain control" of the House of Representatives.

"On Meet the Press this Sunday, the White House spokesman acknowledged what most people already know: that because of broad dissatisfaction with the policies of Bill Pascrell, Nancy Pelosi and this Congress, there is going to be a huge backlash this November," said Straten. "That backlash is going to make districts once considered safe for Democrats very competitive and Republicans definitely have a chance to take back the House of Representatives."

Straten continued "Instead of being upset with the White House for telling the truth, Bill Pascrell and Nancy Pelosi should consider what has caused the backlash in the first place- the rejection by the majority of Americans of their job-killing "tax, spend and borrow' policies and their expansion of government into people's lives and businesses."

Straten, who was CEO of Associated Fire Protection in Paterson for 40 years, said voters want representatives who know how the bills they pass will affect people's lives.

"I understand the backlash against the policies of this Congress because I'm part of it; the reasons people are upset with Congress are the exact same reasons I'm running for Congress," said Straten.

"As a former CEO, I understand how the policies of this Congress affect businesses and the average citizen. Bill Pascrell is a career politician who has gotten a taxpayer-funded paycheck his entire adult life. He has no idea how his votes affect the lives of his constituents. But people understand that his votes for higher taxes and more government spending have lead to massive job losses and a stagnant economy. I'm going to spend the next four months reminding voters of Bill Pascrell's record and in November, they're going to show him just how well they understand."
