Today, Congressman Scott Murphy (NY-20) helped pass The Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act, which closes tax loopholes for corporations who ship jobs overseas so that we can help hold the line on property taxes. The bill, which is deficit neutral, will help our local schools by staving off the choice between layoffs or local tax hikes.
"This is about setting priorities. I feel strongly that we should not be forcing our local governments to raise property taxes or choose mass layoffs of teachers. This bill will very clearly eliminate incentives to ship American jobs overseas so that we can hold the line on property taxes here in Upstate New York, and will protect the jobs here in New York, plain and simple."
New York will receive $2.2 billion from this bill, more than any other state.
