Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement after voting with the 63-to-37 Senate majority to confirm Solicitor General Elana Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court:

"I welcome Solicitor General Kagan's confirmation today as an associate justice of the Supreme Court. With it, I hope the Supreme Court gains a strong voice for the interests of working people and a skeptical eye on the ceaseless encroachment by corporate interests over the wellbeing of ordinary Americans."
