Some of Michigan's greatest assets are our natural resources. People from all over the country come to play in our pristine waters and take in our breathtaking scenery. The tourism industry directly employs nearly 200,000 people statewide and provides a much needed boost to our local economy.

Preserving our natural wonders for generations to come must remain a priority for our state. I supported Michigan signing the Great Lakes Compact- a big step toward ensuring the protection of Michigan's precious natural resources; and the fight to stop the spread of Asian carp and other invasive species into our waters. In addition, we must continue to market all that our state has to offer by maintaining the Pure Michigan campaign. It is estimated that for every dollar spent on tourism advertising it yields $ 2.86 in state tax revenue.
