Schiff Congratulates JPL on Cassini Reaching Saturn

Local Lawmaker Applauds Pasadena Scientists

WASHINGTON, DC - (July 1, 2004) Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) issued the following statement in regard to the Cassini spacecraft's successful arrival at Saturn:

"A century ago, the Wright brothers engineered the first flight just above the Atlantic shoreline; a few decades ago, President Kennedy declared that we would put a man on the moon. Who could have predicted that today we would establish our presence at a ringed planet so many millions of miles away? We have reached beyond expectations and have again redefined the natural boundaries of humankind. As we reach each new milestone in space exploration, we stand in stronger faith that our travels through the galaxy and beyond are eminently possible - that we are destined to seek answers to questions thought unanswerable only a short time ago. When future generations study history to understand how these remarkable steps were achieved, they will look to the men and women of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and thank them for their dedication, resilience and optimism."

Congressman Schiff is the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security and a member of both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees. He represents California's 29th Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
