Unemployment Benefits Extension Cleared for President

Statement

Today, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement after the House passed a bill to extend unemployment benefits, which now goes to the President for his signature.

"These much-needed benefits will finally get to those who lost their job through no fault of their own. But this process has been politicized to the extent that it's embarrassing.

"Playing political games with people's lives is just plain wrong and had serious consequence for those that relied on these benefits to make ends meet. Imagine if you were a parent who needed these benefits to feed your family and keep a roof over your head while you looked for work. Now imagine you lost those benefits because of partisan politics. Some in Washington just don't get it and are too detached from reality. No wonder people are frustrated with Washington.

"Leaders on both sides of the aisle need to put aside the political gamesmanship and come together to focus on smart policies that will put people back to work and rebuild America.
