Barrett Statement on Unemployment Compensation Extension Act

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman J. Gresham Barrett (SC-03) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 4213 the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2010:

"My home state of South Carolina has been struggling with exceptionally high unemployment rates for months, so I understand the financial hardships that many Americans are currently facing.

However, deepening our debt will not strengthen our economy or create more private sector jobs--it will only endanger our nation's economic recovery. We need to find ways to get Americans back to work, but creating additional financial burdens for our future generations is not the way to do it."
