U.S. Senator Jim Bunning issued the following statement after being presented with the Defender of Economic Freedom Award by the Club for Growth. The annual award honors Members of Congress with a strong voting record for economic growth issues. A comprehensive study of each lawmaker's record on pro-growth policies was computed and placed on a scale from 0 to 100. Senator Bunning received a score of 96 percent.
"From bailouts to handouts, tax increases, and over-reaching executive power grabs, the foundations of free market economic growth have not been chiseled away, but rather attacked violently with a jackhammer," said Bunning. "Despite my efforts to stop them, the actions and policies of the Democrats in the 111th Congress have pushed us further into unsustainable debt hindering the ability for substantial economic growth that we desperately need. I am truly honored to receive this award from the Club for Growth."
Chris Chocola, President of The Club for Growth said, "With his score of 96 percent, Senator Bunning has demonstrated a clear commitment to economic liberty and growth. During one of the toughest economic years in memory, he showed that the principles of free enterprise and free markets are the only way to create jobs and rescue our economy."
