Issue Position: Improving Education and Our Children's Future

Issue Position

Issues: Education

If keeping and creating jobs is Roy's top priority, Roy believes education is the best means of achieving it.

As the father of three who attended public schools, Roy is passionately committed to improving education for all Tennesseans.

Roy knows that the days when we could make a good living with a strong back and a strong work ethic are almost gone. Now and in the future, it's still going to take a strong work ethic, but the good-paying jobs will go to those with strong minds. Roy believes education is the key to preparing Tennesseans to compete in the information age and global economy.

In the General Assembly, Roy supported K-12 education reform and sponsored legislation that helps our public schools recruit and retain the best and brightest teachers. As Chair of the Select Committee on Children and Youth, he fought for better education, and as a member of the Broadband Task Force, he is still working to increase internet access to students and schools all over the state. Roy believes access to technology is crucial to preparing Tennesseans for the jobs of the future.

Roy will continue working to improve pre-K programs and K-12 education by attracting and rewarding good teachers and increasing access to technology. Roy will also work to increase access to colleges and universities and ensure opportunities for those who want to pursue vocational or technical training.

Roy believes education is the key to new and better jobs and a better and brighter future for Tennessee.
