Cochran & Wicker Introduce Carlton Reeves to Senate Judiciary Committee

U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to introduce and recommend Carlton Reeves of Jackson to be a U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi.

The Senate Judiciary Committee conducted a confirmation hearing on Reeves, who was nominated in April by President Obama for the federal judicial post. The committee will determine whether to recommend Reeves' confirmation to the full Senate.

"Mr. Reeves has been actively involved with Mississippi Legal Services and other community organizations in our state. He is well-respected by his fellow lawyers and the general public," Cochran said in introducing Reeves. "I am pleased to recommend this nominee for confirmation by the Senate."

"Mr. Reeves has an impressive resume, and will bring a diverse background of service to the federal bench," said Wicker. "I am pleased to have joined Senator Cochran and Congressman Bennie Thompson in support of Mr. Reeves's nomination at today's committee hearing."

Reeves is a cofounder and partner in the law firm of Pigott Reeves Johnson, P.A., in Jackson. He earned his undergraduate degree from Jackson State University and his law degree from the University of Virginia. He has served as a clerk and staff attorney for the Mississippi Supreme Court, and was the Chief of the Civil Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Mississippi.
