Congressman John Sarbanes is urging Republicans lawmakers to stop obstructing passage of an unemployment insurance benefit extension for Americans who lost their jobs through no fault of their own during the economic downturn.
"Extending unemployment insurance is not only the moral thing to do, it is also the best way to continue pushing our economy towards recovery," said Congressman Sarbanes. "Unemployment insurance is not a hand out because many of these individuals have spent years paying into the insurance fund while they were employed. It is an outrage that the Republicans in Congress refuse to support an extension and they should be called to account. Many of these very same Republicans supported extending unemployment insurance during the Bush Administration but are now, by opposing a reasonable extension, playing politics with people's lives."
