Issue Position: Integrity and Independence

Issue Position

* Putting People First.
Paul Hodes believes citizens deserve to have the loudest voice in our democracy, not corporate special interests. The Supreme Court wrongly allowed corporations, including foreign corporations, to infiltrate and pollute one of our most sacred places--the voting booth. Paul believes we must take immediate action to overturn the Citizens United decision, stopping special interests from spending unlimited amounts of money to influence New Hampshire elections. Inspired by New Hampshire native, Doris "Granny D" Haddock, Paul has introduced a constitutional amendment that will prevent unlimited corporate special interest spending from buying elections in New Hampshire.

* Eliminating Wasteful Earmark Spending.
Paul has stood up to leaders of his own party, challenging them to join his effort to end wasteful earmark spending. Paul knows that middle-class families have been forced to tighten their belts and he believes it's time for Washington to do the same. The earmark system is broken, and too often it has been abused by special interests in Washington. It is clear that continuing earmark spending under a broken system creates too much waste and flies in the face of the sacrifices Granite Staters are making during difficult economic times. Paul believes these funds should be used to create middle-class jobs for families in New Hampshire and not continue to be part of a corrupt and wasteful earmarking process.

* Ending Pay-to-Play in Washington.
Paul is fed up with the insider games of Washington and is fighting to end pay to play relationships between members of congress and wealthy campaign contributors. Paul has stood up to leaders of his own party and demanded investigations into members of congress that reward campaign contributors with earmarks. Paul has offered a bipartisan plan to bar congressional campaigns from accepting campaign contributions from any senior executive or registered lobbyist that has requested earmarks from their office.

* Increasing Transparency and Accountability in Government.
Paul has fought to increase transparency and accountability in government. Paul believes taxpayers shouldn't be forced to foot the bill for no-bid contracts. Paul fought against no-bid contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan and supports reform that will save taxpayers billions by forcing contractors to pay for their own mistakes and delays.
