Senate Confirmation of General Petraeus to Lead the War in Afghanistan

I can think of no one better to lead our mission in Afghanistan than General Petraeus, who led the successful surge in Iraq and who Americans -- and our allies and enemies alike -- know and respect as a formidable military leader. Tennesseans remember General Petraeus as a former commander of the 101st Airborne Division, and all Americans know him as the general who led our successful surge in Iraq. The nation is fortunate this American patriot is ready to answer the president's call to take over this tough assignment in Afghanistan.
