Rep. Peter Roskam-- "The federal government should be empowering American families and businesses to get back on the road to prosperity, not sticking them with the bill for a spending frenzy as endless as the Gulf oil spill."
Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL), Deputy Whip and Ways and Means Committee member, issued the following statement after the Department of Labor announced national unemployment data for the month of June:
"Today marks another month of lackluster economic news. Despite borrowing and spending trillions, the policies of the Democrat Majority in Congress continue to fail at creating robust economic growth. All the while, this reckless spending spree is driving our nation deeper and deeper into debt, with 41 cents of every dollar spent by the federal government getting charged to the taxpayer credit card for future generations to pay off.
Eventually, our economy will recover, but it will be through the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of the American people, not through out-of-control government spending on make-work projects. Congress and this Administration need to focus on unleashing the innovation and investment that drive economic growth by lowering taxes on small and growing businesses and eliminating burdensome bureaucratic red tape. The federal government should be empowering American families and businesses to get back on the road to prosperity, not sticking them with the bill for a spending frenzy as endless as the Gulf oil spill."
