Sen. Mike Johanns today commented on the passing of U.S. Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV):
"I'm deeply saddened by the passing of Senator Byrd. The longest-serving member of Congress in U.S. history, I applaud Senator Byrd's extensive work on Senate rules and procedures and using his experience to craft a 4-volume book of the Upper Chamber's history. I also appreciate my work with Senator Byrd last spring, when we successfully led a bipartisan effort to keep the cap-and-trade legislation from being expedited through the budget reconciliation process. He left a legacy of leadership for all of us to admire. Steph and I send our sincere condolences to Senator Byrd's family."
