Armed Services Committee member Senator Roland W. Burris issued the following statement following President Obama's decision to relieve General Stanley McChrystal of his command in Afghanistan:

"As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I fully support the Commander in Chief's decision to relieve General McChrystal of his command in Afghanistan," said Senator Burris. "General McChrystal has given years of loyal service to our country and to our troops, and I salute his service and sacrifice in defense of our nation. I also congratulate General David Petraeus on his nomination to lead the war in Afghanistan,, and I have full confidence that once approved by the Senate, he will continue to carry out this critical mission."
