The highest levels of South Carolina government are full of bureaucrats who are spending your money. Yet, there is almost no accountability in state government.
As Treasurer, I will support creating an Office of Inspector General, a non-partisan official who will be charged with making sure all levels of government are following state law, and practicing sound fiscal management. This person will investigate and bring to light instances of misconduct, fraud, theft and waste of your tax money in each State Office and report all relevant findings to the people of South Carolina, and forward such findings to the Attorney General for prosecution.
Part of being transparent means having a watchdog for your money. I will be watching your money, and ensure that we have an independent investigator to make sure every dollar is being spent effectively, wisely, and in compliance with the law. We have to be better as a state and become more transparent and efficient. Business as usual will not work in this economic environment. An independent Inspector General will hold the public sector accountable and lead it to perform at its highest and best level.
