"Our children will never be free to learn and succeed until they are free from fear, bullying and intimidation."

For children to learn, they must feel safe. One of Superintendent Luna's first actions as State Superintendent was to conduct a Safe and Secure Schools Assessment to assess the current status of the safety and security of K-12 facilities throughout Idaho and explore options for bringing all Idaho's public schools up-to-date in terms of security. Based on the results of this assessment, the staff at the State Department of Education has worked closely with Idaho school districts to create Idaho-specific crisis response plans, provide training to properly implement crisis response plans, standardize statewide school security measures in every school building, and develop a statewide database of approved vendors for security equipment.
