It's not just a constitutional title or a political position. It's a critical job that has a tremendous impact on the financial condition of our state. The treasurer's duties are even more critical during these difficult financial times. It is of utmost importance that the treasurer be the best possible steward of the people's money.
The job of the State Treasurer of Alabama consists of seven primary functions. As a candidate for the position, I am uniquely qualified for each one. Many of my former colleagues in state government have told me they believe that, if elected, I would be the most qualified state treasurer in Alabama's history. I am humbled by their confidence in my abilities. But I know that ultimately, the voters of Alabama will decide who will be our next treasurer when they go to the polls in June and November. They will review the candidates and hire the next person for the job. And I believe if the voters hire their next treasurer based on experience, they will choose me. So I ask that you review my qualifications. Compare me to the other candidates on both sides of the aisle. When you do that, I sincerely believe you will find that I am the best 'hire' for the job of Alabama's State Treasurer. I'm asking you for on of the most important things you have to give - your vote.
