Bono Mack, Secretary LaHood Break Ground on New Air Traffic Control Tower

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45), with transportation officials and local leaders, today broke ground on the new air traffic control tower at Palm Springs International Airport. Joined by U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Senator Barbara Boxer, airport officials and members of the community, Bono Mack emphasized the importance of this crucial project that has been among her top priorities in Congress for nearly a decade.

"This project is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, and I join our entire community in celebrating as we break ground on this long-awaited, new air traffic control tower," said Bono Mack. "I am pleased that my friend Secretary LaHood recognized the importance of this project and joined us today in getting this project underway.

"With millions of residents and visitors traveling to and from our region each year, this was a crucial project that will help Palm Springs International Airport better serve our entire region with the safety and high standard of excellence that we have all come to know and expect.

"This state-of-the-art facility will help air traffic controllers ensure the continued safety of all those who travel to and from our community. "By facilitating increased air travel, this tower will help boost our local economy support our businesses promote job growth and help our community continue to grow and thrive into the future."
