Camp Delivers Memorial Day Speech at Wreath Laying Ceremonies

Date: May 31, 2010
Location: Midland, MI

"We gather today in front of this memorial to remember the sacrifices, the courage, and the bravery of the men and women who fought and died for this country.

We will always remember their sacrifice. And, we must have the same unshakable support for those who have served in our armed forces as they displayed in defending us. In honor of all those who serve us in the United States Military, we must also remember the sacrifices of the families of our servicemen and women -- for them, war never ends.

Today, we take just a moment to pause and pay tribute to the fallen and their families, and thank them for protecting our values and freedoms so selflessly. Whether it is laying down a wreath, flying a flag, or taking a moment of silence during this afternoon's National Moment of Remembrance, we connect as Americans and commit ourselves to honoring the fallen.

As we salute our nation's heroes, we are humbled by this fact: We can never repay the debt we owe them. However, we can and will pledge to live our lives in such a way as to be worthy of their sacrifice.

May God watch over and comfort the families of fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines; may God bless our servicemen and women; and may God continue to grant this nation with the courage to defend life and liberty."
