Would prefer to see more than 1,200 National Guard Troops deployed & additional air assets
Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement on the Obama Administration's border security announcement:
"While the White House has withheld many of the details of this plan from Congress, from what we do know, the announcement seems to be a long-overdue step in the right direction. I would prefer to see more than 1,200 National Guard Troops deployed and additional air assets mobilized to support the current work of the Border Patrol. Today's announcement of a request for $500 million for border security is a bit unexpected given the Administration's recent proposal to cut the budget of the Border Patrol and the Administration's lack of a comprehensive strategy for securing the border. Now that the Administration has begun to address the problem, it is more important than ever for Congress to enact border security legislation."
