Issues: Foreign Aid

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, is urging the South Florida Community to lend a helping hand and contribute to a Haiti Orphanage Fund spearheaded by the Old Cutler Presbyterian Church and being supported by three shopping centers of the Suchman Retail Group. Media is invited tomorrow, Saturday May 15th at
12 Noon to the Kings Bay Shopping Center at US 1 and SW 144 Street to learn more of this noble endeavor in helping Children in earthquake ravaged Haiti.

Months after the tragic earthquake that shook Haiti, the small island nation still struggles to rise from the horror and death brought upon by the monster quake. Around the United States, millions of Americans donated goods, services, money and time to the relief effort, but none more than South Floridians. With South Florida being home to the largest population of Haitian-Americans outside of Haiti, we had a moral responsibility to help our Haitian brothers and sisters and we did, jumping into action and lending our assistance.

The orphanage fund being spearheaded by the Old Cutler Presbyterian Church will continue South Florida's exemplary actions in helping Haiti. The fund will be greatly helped by the support that the Suchman Retail Group will offer as retailers in those shopping centers will run special sales with a percentage of proceeds going to the Haiti Orphanage Fund.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "I was so moved by the incredible outpouring of support that South Florida gave to Haiti after the terrible earthquake that devastated Port Au Prince. In keeping with this tradition of giving and helping, I urge the South Florida community to support this noble effort by the Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, the Suchman Retail Group, and others that will have as its fruit a fully functioning orphanage in Haiti. What a wonderful way to keep helping the children of Haiti."
