Fleming Comments On Senate National Energy Tax Legislation

Press Release

Date: May 13, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Representative John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after Sens. Kerry (D-MA) and Lieberman (I-CT) introduced the Senate Democrats' version of cap-and-trade legislation:

"This bill is just another iteration of the cap-and-trade legislation which passed the House last year over the objection of the American people. Much like the recent government takeover of health care, this legislation was crafted behind closed doors and is chock full of backroom deals and special interest payoffs. More accurately described as "cap-and-tax', this legislation is nothing more than a national energy tax. It is bad energy policy that will increase energy costs for families and small businesses, devastate manufacturing, energy and agriculture industries, and ship jobs oversees to countries like China and India, all without resulting in a reduction in global temperatures. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to put their constituents first by voting against this job-killing legislation."
