Governor to Lead First-Ever Economic Summit of States

Press Release

Date: May 14, 2010
Location: Pierre, SD

Gov. Mike Rounds, who is 2010 president of the Council of State Governments, will help lead a first-ever Economic Summit of the States in New York City on May 20-23.

The nonpartisan CSG meeting will provide a platform for state officials from across the nation to exchange ideas and develop creative solutions for recovery from the recession.

"I'm hopeful that the summit will result in an abundance of ideas that may help each state, in its own way, press forward toward improved economic times," Gov. Rounds said. "State budgets have been especially hard hit, and what may work in one state may not work in another. That's why it's important to come up with a variety of options that can serve as tailored building blocks for recovery."

The summit will also feature breakout sessions on the economics involved in such policy areas as Medicaid, energy, infrastructure and education.
Gov. Rounds will chair the Economic Summit of the States with Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams, who is 2010 CSG chairman.
The Council of State Governments serves all three branches of government to foster an exchange of views and ideas that help state officials shape public policy.
