On Monday, May 17, Senator Ted KAUFMAN (D-Del.) spoke to 159 students from 33 Delaware high schools at the second annual "KAUFMAN Youth Conference," held at Wesley College in Dover. Carrying on the tradition started by Sen. Bill Roth and continued by then-Sen. Joe Biden, the youth conference has been an opportunity for Delaware teens to hear from professional leaders from across the state on a variety of topics.

KAUFMAN stressed the importance of community service and education.

"Youth today are so engaged and want to make a real difference," he said. "I can say from personal experience, when those who dedicate their lives to public service retire, you can look back on your career and know, with certainty, that when your country needed you, you gave of yourself. Whether it's science or politics, do what you love and try to serve the public good. We need smart and hard working young people like you to get this economy moving and preserve America's role as a world superpower."

KAUFMAN took questions for more than an hour from the students, with topics including Wall Street reform, education, healthcare reform, technology, offshore oil drilling, the criminal system, North Korea, and the economy.

Following the question and answer session with KAUFMAN, students split into four groups to hear from local experts on the following topics: "So You Think You Can Make a Difference?"; "Major Crime Scene Investigations: Myths vs. Realities"; "How Do You Get Your News? From Newspapers to Twitter"; and "Money Talks!".
