Putnam Statement On Gulf Oil Leak

Statement

Date: May 3, 2010
Issues: Oil and Gas

Congressman Adam Putnam today issued the following statement concerning the continuing leak of oil from the site of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico:

"I am deeply concerned about the economic and ecological damage the oil leak is causing. This is a national disaster. It is clear to every elected official, from the President on down that consideration of any new exploration closer to shore needs to be taken off the table and we need to have a thorough investigation into what happened and the inability of the industry to effectively respond.

"In the meantime, Florida must make the most of what lead-time we have to prepare for the worst. We will need volunteers to be available to help with the cleanup and for the people working on this problem to find a solution to finally close off this well.

"Pray for better cleanup weather conditions and for our neighbors along the Gulf Coast."

Since 2001, Putnam has represented Florida's 12th Congressional District, which includes most of Polk County and portions of Hillsborough and Osceola counties.
