Governor McDonnell Announces Statewide Earth Week Events

Press Release

Location: Richmond, VA

Governor Bob McDonnell today kicked-off a statewide celebration and recognition of Earth Week. Events will take place all across Virginia Friday, April 16th through Sunday, April 25th hosted by various departments and agencies under the Secretary of Natural Resources. McDonnell will kick-off Earth Week this evening with a speech at the Virginia Forestry Association Conference. Over the next week he will participate in a number of events recognizing the importance of conserving and protecting Virginia's natural resources.

Speaking about Earth Week, Governor McDonnell remarked, "On Earth Day last year, while campaigning for Governor, I announced my intention to conserve an additional 400,000 additional acres of open space in Virginia. I also announced plans during the campaign to help protect the Chesapeake Bay and establish Virginia as a green jobs zone. We are moving forward on all of these efforts. Another major component in our effort to preserve the Commonwealth's natural resources is ensuring that all Virginians get involved in their cities and counties. Over the next week there will be conservation activities and events in every region of the state. Virginia is home to beautiful natural resources, from rivers to working farms to mountains. We must conserve these resources for this generation, and all that follow. Conservation and preservation of our natural resources is good for the economy, job-creation and our quality of life."

Below is a complete schedule of Earth Week events Governor McDonnell is participating in as well as a list of events taking place across the state.
